I have so much work to get done before our new little bundle of joy arrives in 2018, one of the projects that I am currently working on is The Penguinies. I need to totally revamp and update The Penguinies website amongst other things. One of the new updates and changes that I have planned on making since way back in the summer, was to create a new logo design for The Penguinies. I knew I wanted to create a rainbow coloured text like the old one, but it needed sprousing up a little bit. The Penguinies are all rainbow coloured as they are space Penguins who live on planet Snarf. I can’t tell you how many designs I actually made for the new logo before we settled on one, there is just too many. In addition to this, I also paid a few different people to come up with some of their own design ideas for the new logo. However, this turned out to be a total disaster and I didn’t end up choosing any of them, as nobody seemed to understand the feel or concept that I was aiming for.
Although this one has multiple colours, it isn’t rainbow text which is what I requested in the specification. It also doesn’t have capital letters for the T and P which was also a requirement. Most of all I didn’t like or choose this logo because it doesn’t stand out and I personally don’t think that it suits the Penguinie characters. It’s quite plain, simple and dull, and nothing like The Penguinies.
This logo design that I was presented came as a big shock, particularly as I had asked the designers not to alter or change my Penguinie characters in any sort of way. As you can see, the Penguinie character was transformed into something quite ugly. I was extremely disappointed with this design. The writing is all pink and very feminine, nothing like I had asked in the specification requirements so this was a big no, no!
I was then handed this version which was just as bad and failed on every point that I had mad. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking when they handed me this? They literally did everything that I had asked them not to do. In the bin, this went!
I asked the designers to just concentrate on the logo text and stated that I would then finish the logo off with my own designs. However, even this task couldn’t be completed and I was handed designs such as this one, which again I do not feel that it suits the Penguinie characters. I feel this one is for an older audience, it has a 1970’s vibe to it and it’s very dark. Unfortunately, this was one of the best images out of all of the text designs that I was handed.
I have no idea where they were going with this one! They completely destroyed my Penguinie character and presented me with a normal black and white penguin wearing a hat and glasses! I was gobsmacked at how many different designers could have got something so simple, so very wrong. I then decided to save myself money and time by sticking to my own designs and I made it all myself, despite the lack of time that I had to complete it. I did have a little help from my eldest son who helped me to narrow it down to these three logo designs which I created.
Although I do like them all, ever so much we decided to go with the last one for the main logo. I think the rainbow text which I created blends perfectly with the Penguinie characters which is what I was looking for. It’s funky, bright, colourful and yet so simple. I thought I would share some of my work with you and show you all what I have been up to for this past few weeks. I hope you like the new logo design and any feedback is more than welcome.
